Oracle Investors Reject Race, Gender Pay Gap Reporting Bid

Proposal sought disclosure of risks posed by pay inequities
Kroger Co. shareholders approved similar proposal this year
Oracle Corp. investors rejected a proposal on Wednesday asking the computer software company to produce a report analyzing the risks posed by pay inequities.
The proposal, presented by impact investment firm Arjuna Capital, said Oracle should report data giving shareholders a full picture of whether the company pays employees the same amount for similar roles regardless of race or gender. The requested report should look at whether workers have equal opportunities for higher-paying roles, according to the proposal.
Arjuna also asked Oracle to report on reputational, competitive, and operational risks related to its policies for recruiting and retaining diverse talent.
Shareholder advocates have persistently pushed this year for companies to disclose discrepancies in how they pay women and minorities. Kroger Co. investors in June approved another pay equity proposal from Arjuna Capital—one of the few shareholder bids to pass the 50% threshold of investor support this year.
